| Alex Smith - now bringing the 49ers down from the outside. |
First off, is a report from March that the Niners were one of five teams fined for having illegal contact with players prior to the end of the league's calendar year. Not really a big deal, except the player in question is Alex Smith, who continues to negatively impact the 49ers - even when he's not on the practice field - or under contract! Unbelievable.
Next, is another news item about how the Niners are planning to make some imaginary money by getting naming rights to their imaginary new stadium in Santa Clara. As with all York-related projects, I'll believe it when I see it. How about you stop worrying about naming rights and start worrying about when you'll actually begin BUILDING your stadium?
Finally, hot off the presses this afternoon is the announcement that radio analyst Gary Plummer, who occasionally ripped the 49ers on-air over the past couple of seasons, is being replaced by Eric Davis. Again, not really a big deal, except it seems as though Davis is more of a "company guy" in Lil' Jed's stable of yes-men. Then again, at least he can string two sentences together without pausing akwardly. I'll call it a wash.

Yep, we should trade our 1st round pick for a veteran washup or an unproven commodity, or maybe draft a rookie and throw him in to the fire..........or smarten up and resign Smith to a 1 or 2 year deal. I prefer the latter.
ReplyDeleteI can't speak to much to your naming rights comment other than to ask what franchise wouldn't do that?
And lastly, Davis is hardly a "yes-man/company guy". He'll tell like it is, and he has a reputation for doing so.
Oh the negativity!
They can sign a serviceable free agent veteran. Seemed to work for the Cardinals (Warner) and Titans (Collins) during the past few years. Hell, they'd probably be better off with John Kitna than Alex Smith at this point...and why not try to grab Carson Palmer?
ReplyDeleteRegarding naming rights - build the damn stadium first before you worry about what it's going to be called. Instead, the 49ers are already trying to figure out another way to make money on the stadium when they aren't even close to breaking ground at the site.
Trading for Palmer might be a good idea as long as the asking price isn't our first round draft choice. The Eagles want way to much for Kolb, and I don't think the Broncos want to trade Orton.
ReplyDeleteCan you believe the audacity of the 49ers? I am floored that they would consider trying to make money by selling naming rights. They must think it's a business or something.
