New Hire to Bring Zero Football Knowledge to Local Team

"How many points do
you get for a touchdown?"
Breaking "news" - the 49ers have named Gideon Yu as their Chief Strategy Officer. Yu was previously the CFO of Facebook and YouTube and a VP/Treasurer for Yahoo!

The speculation is that Yu will be handling new stadium business. Lil' Jed and Paraag now have a new buddy to play with.

I've been around Silicon Valley for the last decade-plus, and I never heard about Facebook, YouTube or Yahoo! being in the football stadium business. I guess that's because they aren't.

  1. former CFO for Facebook and YouTube, and former VP/Treasurer of Yahoo. Yu must be a real idiot, I don't mean You, I meam Yu, well You a little bit.

  2. Dude, nobody is forcing you to read this blog.

If you think another Silicon Valley geek is going to bring the Niners back to prominence, good for you. Go hang out at 49ers.com. I've seen this act before when the Yorks hired Peter Harris from FAO Schwarz to replace Carmen Policy as CEO. Remember how that turned out? HIS job was to jump-start the stadium process, too.

It's obvious you aren't the intended audience for this site.

And for the record, I'd rather be a baby than a blind sheep eating all of the slop the Yorks are dishing out.

  3. First of all Yu “the Silicon Valley Geek” wasn’t hired to bring the 49ers back to prominence, Jim Harbaugh was. Secondly I don’t want to hear about Carmen Policy, he (and Dwight Clark) failed miserably once the salary cap was put in the place. They screwed it all up in Cleveland too, but I digress.

Yu is a Stanford/Harvard grad who held top positions with major corporations, negotiated multi-billion dollar sales, led huge acquisitions for Yahoo, yet you sit there and criticize Jed because you contend Yu has no football experience. Really, are you that shallow? Do you really think Yu needs to understand the west coast offense or know how many points a team gets for scoring a TD? For Christ sake, Yu was brought in to negotiate and manage the stadium project, not talk football.

Yu’s degree from Stanford was Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, do you think that might apply in building/overseeing the construction of a football stadium? Don’t you think the negotiating skills he used when leading the $1.65 billion sale of YouTube to Google might come in handy when playing hard ball with other NFL owners, the NFL itself, and the City of Santa Clara?

You ought to be happy that "Lil' Jed" was able to lure someone with such an astonishing resume and experience.

The truth is you want the Niners and Jed to fail because what would become of this ridiculous little blog if they won? Actually I hate your blog, 90% of crap you spew is just ridiculous. Judging by all the comments, or lack there of, it appears no one else really likes it either. But like a freeway pile up, I just can’t help but rubber neck.

  4. I don't give a shit where Yu is from - he's another guy Lil' Jed has brought in that doesn't have any NFL (or sports business) experience. That is all I need to know. Paraag also has a great educational pedigree and he's nothing but a target of derision for 49er fans.

And yes, I do want the Yorks to continue failing to the point where they either admit their own incompetence and bring in qualified NFL people to run the entire organization or give up and sell the team.

I don't like the Yorks. I don't like what they've done to the 49ers. I'm not giving them any more chances - a decade is long enough for me to believe that they will never guide the 49ers to success on or off the field.

If you hate the blog, please feel free not to visit again. After all, it's jackassed rubber neckers who cause massive traffic jams every time there's a minor road accident. Go clog up your own highway and start your own blog.

  5. or you could go root for the Raiders or Chargers, the fewer fans we have like you, the better off our fan base will be.

  6. Yes, the fan base will be so much better off if it was only comprised of people kissing the Yorks' asses and sending them money. Then, everybody can dance around in Lollipop Land while eating gumdrops and chocolate while praising the football acumen of the entire York family.

You're living in a dream world if you don't think that the majority of the real fan base is fed up with the crap this organization has been shoveling down our throats.

Try listening to some of the local sports radio programs down here and see what real fans have to say about the 49ers. It's sure to burst your bubble when you find out that NOBODY wants Alex Smith back, NOBODY has any faith in the Yorks and NOBODY believes a new stadium will be built. Your golden boy Jim Harbaugh has been received with a lukewarm reception at best.

That's just the way it is.

  7. And the Yorks ruining this franchise will never force me to be a fan of another team. I was a fan before Eddie and the rest of the extended DeBartolo family ever set foot in Candlestick Park.

The Yorks stink - they're the ones who should be leaving.
