And Another Thing - Your Helmets Are Ugly, Too

I mean, really - is it THAT ugly?
Since ESPN is running out of NFL-approved features to run on their website during the lockout, they've made the editorial decision to devote a top story to ranking the league's helmets. Seriously. They paid people to rank helmet designs and write about it.

Yes, smack dab in the middle of the NHL and NBA conference finals while the MLB season kicks into high gear, The Leader is occupying itself with "who has the prettiest helmets in the NFL?" I'd be much more impressed if they ran an article about how ridiculous it is to be thinking of these things while the entire league has ceased operating because billionaires can't share their toys with millionaires.

About the only surprise in the article was that the Niners' current throwback design was among six helmets that received ZERO votes. Ouch. On the other hand, a "guest" judge who was a contestant on "Project Runway" ranked the Niners' helmet at No. 2. So take that, ESPN columnists!

I always considered the latest uniform design as a small victory for York and co., even if they still had to muck it up by keeping the modern logo on the helmet.

And, here's your Daily Dose of Sunshine: Alex Smith On Board with Harbaugh, Envisions Returning to 49ers.

Really? The Packers didn't want Smith (Alex)? The Steelers? The Lions? ANYBODY? What a surprise. Two desperate parties, both needing each other. Pathetic. And expected.

  1. Let's just throw Kaepernick in there as a rookie. That's what smart NFL teams do, right? Or how about we trade our future for Alex Smith II, aka Kevin Kolb. Or maybe sign a washup like McNabb or Bulger. Do you have any suggestions, or do you just like talking sh%t and bashing people?

  2. Actually, yeah - that IS what smart teams do. Seemed to work out OK for the Cowboys when they drafted Aikman and the Colts when they drafted Manning. Both QBs started every game of their rookie seasons.

And I'd take a washup like McNabb, Hasselbeck or Bulger ANY DAY over the same old Alex Smith. I've seen enough of Alex Smith. Most Niner fans that I've heard feel the exact same way.

  3. What is it with this Justin guy?

Get a life, dude. 49er fans are frustrated and this seems like a good place to vent and read about somebody who feels the same way. I don't think this blog is for you. Ass-kissing a team that has treated its customers so poorly makes you look like a total dope here.

  4. Get a life? I have one, a really good one. I'm happily married, the kids are healthy, and the SF Giants are World Champs. Besides I'm not the one that has a blog dedicated to whining. Somebody else needs to get a life.

Look, I've felt the same way as you about 49ers ownership for a long time. John and Denise did the team and the city no favors with the way they ran the organization in to the ground. That being said, I've been noticing improvements in the way things are currently being run. I like the fact that finally the Niners are committing to their young players rather than being so cheap that they simply walk away via free agency. Lately, Jed has been giving long term deals to several of our stars. Pat Willis and Vernon Davis would be making tackles and catching TD passes for other organizations if John was still running the show. Plus, I like what the front office did with our coaching hire this offseason. Furthermore, a top notch negotiator was just hired to help the stadium process along. If you guys can't see improvements then you're just looking to hate, bitch, and moan.

You can call me a total dope or an ass kisser or whatever, but I'm not the one sitting here making carte blanche B.S. statements just because it's a Jed decision. The Niners could hire Bill Parcells as GM and Bill Belichick as coach and this blog would still be a dedication to whining.

If you're talking about poor customer service because he haven't made the playoffs while at the same time raising tickets prices then I agree with you, even though that's business per usual in the NFL. The garlic fries are still good, and the Anchor Steam still flows.

I didn't realize that I had to agree with everything to post here.

  5. Whining? Please. That's a moronic statement.

Creating a forum to state my opinions rather than bombard people on other sites with my thoughts is not whining.

Whining is when somebody pesters others with no choice but to listen their bitching and moaning.

Feel free to love the Niners. Many fans and ticketholders share my sentiment that the current regime has mishandled this public institution and they will offer no further support until they can prove this organization is capable of doing the right thing.

The Yorks have made me grown apathetic and disinterested in something that once meant a great deal to me and many, many other fans.

I WANT to like the Niners. I WANT to be excited for the 2011 season. But that isn't happening anymore and it all goes back to Denise, John and Jed. They took the keys to an expensive sports car and promptly ran right off the road and into a ditch they can't get out of.

I don't give a shit about anybody else's opinion, but if they don't like mine, they can go start their own blog.

    My blog, my rules.

  6. I know you want to like the Niners and be excited, I know you are a big fan, I know that.

Honestly, if Harbaugh turns out to be a good NFL coach like his brother, and if Jed signs the checks, it will start to turn around. And if Harbaugh can groom Kaepernick in to a solid NFL QB we'll be ok! There are a lot of nice pieces already in place.

Jed has stated that he wants to sit back and sign checks, that is exactly what smart NFL owners do, that's what Eddie did!

John and Denise can go to hell in my book, but I'm thinking Jed is really trying hard. I can see he really wants to succeed. I'm sticking it out until he proves me wrong.
